Dr. Fatih Uckun

Professor of Research Pediatrics at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and CHLA

Fatih Uckun, M.D., Ph.D. is a senior physician-scientist who currently holds the academic post of Professor of Research in the Department of Pediatrics in the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. In addition, he serves as the Head of Translational Research in Leukemia and Lymphoma and the Leader of the Developmental Therapeutics Program within the Children?s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Children?s Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Fatih Uckun also heads a federally funded Nanomedicine Research & Development Program at the Children?s Hospital Los Angeles. This program is affiliated with the National Cancer Institute Alliance on Nanotechnology against Cancer. Prior to accepting his current positions in Los Angeles, Dr. Fatih Uckun operated for 11 years as the Director of the Parker Hughes Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Dr. Fatih Uckun belongs to a number of medical associations, including the American Society for Clinical Investigation, an honor society for leading physician-scientists. He holds patents for more than 80 inventions, received numerous awards, including the Stohlman Memorial Award, the highest honor given by the Leukemia Society of America to its most productive scholars and has lectured at many prestigious organizations and conferences. Dr. Fatih Uckun has published more than 400 articles in most prestigious peer-reviewed journals, including Science, Nature, Immunity, New England Journal of Medicine, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Often sought as a guest lecturer on his work, he regularly speaks to other professional groups about his projects. In July 2011, Dr. Fatih Uckun will participate in the Gordon Research Conference in Waterville, Maine, as an invited discussion leader on the topic of cancer nanotechnology.
